ESB Networks has completed an upgrade to the electricity network near Shannon, doubling the station’s capacity to meet growing demand from homes and businesses.
The work involved upgrading two transformers, increasing the amount of electricity the station can supply to the area.
The utility says the extra capacity is enough to meet the electricity needs of around 2,500 homes and will help support future housing, business and industrial growth in the Shannon area.
The project is part of a wider ESB Networks investment programme to strengthen Ireland’s electricity supply and prepare for future demand.
ESB Network Capacity Deployment Manager James Finn says ‘The Drumline 110 kV Station upgrade forms part of ESB Networks’ wider programme of investment under Price Review 6 (PR6), focused on strengthening and building out the electricity network across the country so it can meet increasing demand and support Ireland’s housing, economic and climate ambitions’.
