An Ennis economist is warning that households are likely to face difficult and challenging changes to living standards over the coming months.
It follows the publication of the ESRI’s latest quarterly report, which warns that Irish households have yet to feel the full impact of recent energy price rises, with higher food prices also expected.
Inflation is forecast to remain above 3% next year, while concerns are also growing over Government spending, housing supply and Ireland’s reliance on multinational tax revenues.
Associate Professor of Social Policy at UCD and Ennis native Micheál Collins says the delayed impact of costs relating to the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz should start to filter through to consumers from next month.
