100,000 euro worth of drugs has been seized by Revenue officers at Shannon Airport.
It’s one of a number of detections over the past week at the Midwest facility, Dublin, the Midlands and Rosslare Europort.
As a result of risk profiling and intelligence-led operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity, Revenue officers have seized around 440,000 euro worth of contraband in four locations across the country.
The detections include 5 kilograms of herbal cannabis, with a street value of 100,000 euro at Shannon Airport, while a further 11.5 kilograms of the drug, with an estimated value of approximately 231,200 euro was seized at Dublin and Rosslare Europort.
Various illicit drugs with an estimated value of over 18,250 euro have also been seized as part of the operations, as well as 23,200 cigarettes, 4.5 kilograms of tobacco with a retail value of almost 23,500 euro and 183 counterfeit items, with an estimated value of over 68,000 euro.
The herbal cannabis and other illicit drugs were discovered with the assistance of detector dogs Sam, Ciara and Jasper, during operations in Shannon, Dublin and Rosslare.
The contraband originated from the UK, the USA, Mexico, France, Poland, the Netherlands and Canada and was destined for addresses nationwide.
The counterfeit goods were seized as they were confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed on Intellectual Property Rights.
In addition, over 76 litres of alcohol with a retail value of over 960 euro and representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over 650 euro were seized in the Midlands and Rosslare Europort, and numerous weapons were also seized in Dublin and the Midlands.
Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
