West On Track has expressed disgust over a new report which has warned that parts of the country's rail network, including the Ennis to Athenry line, could face closure.
The report by the National Transport Authority was compiled before budget allocations this month and points to losses of around 11 million euro nationally for Irish Rail this year, despite increases in passenger numbers.
An independent report released two weeks ago shows that numbers using the Ennis to Athenry rail line have increased by 100 per cent since last year, with more than 300,000 people using the service.
Colmán O Raghallaigh says issues at certain sections of the line between Limerick and Athenry should be dealt with rather than closing a large section of it.
