The Ennis Market Rejuvenation project has just gotten underway at Garraunakilla, marking an investment of close to 2-million-euro in the site.

It ecompasses the area from the junction of Barrack Street on Market Street from the lower Drumbiggle Road to Cooper's Place, with the 320 square metre covered market located behind the exsting public toilet in area.

When completed, the location will provide a dual purpose – it will act as a covered Farmer's Market – and when it's not in use by traders, it will be available for car-parking.

The works are expected to take seven months to complete and Clare County Council will be engaging with market traders early next year to outline details of how the new system will work.

The site has already been closed off and work will get underway tomorrow.

Engineer with the local authority, Eamon O'Dea outlines how the project will progress over the coming months.

Objections have been raised over the project, which will take seven months to complete, but Ennis Councillor Johnny Flynn, who was involved in the development phase of the project says its a much-needed project.
