Clare County Council has refused plans for several vacant units in Ennis to be repurposed as a retail store over concerns for businesses in the town centre.
In March, Breda Connors applied for permission to amalgamate three ground floor units at Heather Hill House to be converted into a shop with an Off-Licence area.
The application received objections from local residents and traders citing concerns over road safety in a heavily trafficked area and the out of town centre location of the retail unit.
The local authority ultimately refused the plans stating the store’s location would endanger public safety by virtue of a traffic hazard and would create a counter attraction to existing retail in Ennis.
