Clare County Council is investing €3.5 million in enhancements to the Clare County Fire and Rescue Service.
The new equipment and vehicles are expected to improve firefighter safety and enhance services across the county.
Central to the improvements announced this week is the replacement of breathing apparatus sets which are equipped with new technology in respiratory protection, thus enhancing safety in smoke-filled and hazardous environments.
The new PPE fire kit will give firefighters enhanced protective clothing which is intended to offer additional protection and improve operational performance.
The service is also progressing the acquisition of battery-operated hydraulic rescue equipment which is quieter than a traditional petrol-powered generator while also being more environmentally friendly.
Other developments include a new water tanker, the refurbishment of the Incident Command Unit, the Scorpion Class B appliance which is being built and is due for delivery this year, another new Class B appliance, and a rostered Senior Fire Officer four-wheel drive vehicle.
