Council To Decide Local Property Tax For Next Year

Clare Councillors will debate the rate of Local Property Tax which in this county at a meeting of the local authority this afternoon.

In 2019, local representatives controversially voted in favour of a 15% increase on the tax for Clare homeowners, in a bid to boost the funding available for local services.

In a less contentious move than the year prior, councillors last year voted in favour of retaining the increased level of tax in this county to provide a much need €1.5m boost to the local authority, whose finances were badly hit during the pandemic.

Given the continued strain on Council coffers over the past year, it’s likely the increased rate will be retained again.

Chief Executive of Clare County Council, Pat Dowling, informed members at last month’s meeting that the date for agreeing the local adjustment factor for the tax has been brought forward and that the council must make a decision before the end of August.
