Concern is being raised over the management of the flood risk to the Shannon area.

The OPW has identified both the town and the Airport as being in danger of flooding in the case of a severe weather event, however the the body has recommended that embankments in both areas be managed seperately as Shannon Airport is a commercial entity.

Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn is calling on the OPW to carry out work to raise the embankments in all parts of the town and surrounding areas and insists that treating them seperately leaves Shannon vulnerable.

Councillor Flynn wants members of the OPW to attend a meeting with local representatives so they can outline their concerns.
