The number of commercial buildings with an ‘A’ Energy Rating in Clare has doubled in the last three months.
The latest quarterly figures from the Central Statistics Office also show that sports facilities accounted for the greatest use of energy in the county between April and June.
In the second quarter of the year, 65 properties in Clare received Non Domestic Building Energy Ratings for the first time.
This means 1,909 such premises are now in receipt of a BER certificate.
Of those 30% received a ‘C’ grade while 20% were awarded either an ‘F’ or ‘G’ grade.
At the other end of the scale, 13% of properties here registered a ‘B’ rating while the 2% of dwellings that recorded the highest possible ‘A’ rating has doubled in the last three months.
Between April and June, electricity was the fuel of choice for 57% of proprietors in the county when it came to heating their premises, while 21% used mains gas and 18% opted for heating oil.
The report also shows that sports facilities in Clare expended more energy than any other building type in the county, using an average of 1,319 Kilowatt hours per year, while retail units were a close second accounting for 1,030 Kw/h.
Only counties Meath and Kilkenny used more electricity to power their sports facilities in the quarter than Clare.
