The demand for social housing in Clare saw a slight increase in March of this year.
The latest figures indicate 2,739 households are currently on the waiting list.
The figure represents an increase of 17 households on Clare’s social housing list, up from the 2,722 recorded at the end of February.
In December of last year, the county recorded it’s lowest number of applicants since 2020, with waiting lists incrementally rising in the months since.
1 and 2 bed properties are the most sought after homes, with 2,152 seeking these properties, while 3 bed homes saw the second highest number of applications.
Ennis again was most popular first area of choice with 1,208 households seeking social housing in the county town, followed by Shannon, Clarecastle, the Ennistymon area and Kilrush.
Of the total demand at the end of March, 1,461 households on the social housing list are not in receipt of any form of housing support such as the Housing Assistance Payment or the Rental Accommodation Scheme.
