Clare rent has shot up by almost 10 percent in a year – with the average monthly rate now standing at €678.
That’s up from €618 in the third quarter of last year – and a rise of €150 in the monthly rate in just two years.
The latest report from the Residential Tenancies Board makes for tough reading for tenants.
Renters in the Banner County are paying €60 a month more on average as 2017 draws to a close compared with this time last year.
Though the figure is frightening, it pales in comparison to the 21% jump experienced in Limerick – now sitting at €869 versus €715 in the same period last year.
The RTB report puts the Killaloe electoral area as the most expensive place in Clare to rent at €797.35 per month in Quarter 3.
In the Shannon area, tenants can now expect to be paying an average of €748.67 a month, while those around Ennis pay out an average of €732.38 per month for a home.
West Clare falls well below these figures, where people can expect to hand over €590.83 to their landlords.
