Clare recorded its lowest-ever number of Roman Catholic marriages last year, excluding 2020.
A total of 543 marriages took place in Clare last year, 531 of which were opposite-sex while the remaining 12 were same-sex.

Of the 531 opposite-sex marriages registered, just 250, or 47%, were Roman Catholic, with 42% categorised under “other religious denominations”, 7% as humanist services, 3% as spiritualist and four as Church of Ireland.
Shannon-based humanist celebrant Pat Clarke Browne says the offering of a non-religious wedding is becoming increasingly appealing to couples.
