A Clare mother, who’s daughter suffered from withdrawals after using a HHC product is calling for a programme to be rolled out in schools educating young people about the consequences of physchoactive products.
Hexahydrocannabinol, a semi-synthetic ‘cannabinoid’ developed from CBD is now classed as a Schedule 1 controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977, which means the import, export, production, possession, sale, and supply of HHC products is now illegal.
HHC, which has been available in vapes and edibles in Ireland since 2022 has been linked to cases of severe phychosis, but the Government only this week followed in the footsteps of other EU countries by classing the product as a controlled substance.
Gráinne has told Clare FM’s Morning Focus that while it’s good news the product is now banned, it’s vital there’s vigilance in ensuring other pyschoactive products aren’t allowed to take it’s place on market shelves.
