Men in Clare continue to earn more on average a week than women.
New Central Statistics Office data indicates that despite an increase in weekly wages for both men and women in 2023, the difference between the average earnings has also increased.
€947 was the average weekly wage for a man over the age of 15 in the Banner County in 2023, a 5% increase from the figure of €903 in 2022.
This represents an over 30% disparity between men and women’s wages in the county last year, with a woman’s weekly wage calculated at €726 a week.
The total difference in average wages has increased since 2022, with men on average earning €16 a week more in 2023 than a year previous.
However, a woman in Clare’s weekly wage increased from 2022, rising 4% from €698 in the span of 12 months.
Men aged between 50 and 59 were recorded as earning the most per week in Clare last year, taking in an average weekly wage of €1210.
The increase seen in this age bracket was less than the average wage hike across all age groups, with the €37 increase representing a 3% wage hike.
This figure was €386 more than women in the same age bracket, who earned on average €824 a week.
When compared to 2022, this difference has decreased slightly, with a €395 difference registered in 2022.
