A West Clare man says he’ll be confined to his home if the government axes a VAT and VRT relief scheme for disabled drivers.
It comes as the coalition has announced its plans to introduce a new vehicle adaption scheme.
The scheme would cover minor alterations for vehicles only and would not make any contributions to capital costs.
Cooraclare disabled driver Desmond Lillis claims many in his situation would lose their independence under the plans.

The Disabled Drivers Scheme which is currently in place has previously been acknowledged as not fit for purpose by then Taoiseach Simon Harris and is currently under review.
At present it provides reliefs of up to €48,000 depending on the work needed to suitably adapt a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
