Clare Could Be National Leader In Scheme With “Transformative Potential” To Tackle Housing Crisis

It’s being argued Clare can lead from the front in a new scheme said to have “transformative potential” to combat the housing crisis.

Clare County Council is due to unveil plans to create 12 serviced sites for new private homes in Lisdoonvarna next week.

The sites will be provided on a 2.26-hectare landbank in Rooska as the first development of its kind in the county under the Ready to Build Scheme.

The initiative provides discounted, fully-serviced sites in towns and villages to support the construction of principal private residences.

The proposal for Rooska includes 12 serviced sites as well as the construction of a new service road with footpaths and public amenity open space.

These sites are intended to be developed on by private individuals who want to build their own home to live in as their primary residence.

Lisdoonvarna Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy believes the scheme could be a gamechanger for rural areas across Ireland.

A meeting will be held next Wednesday February 18th from 6pm to 8pm in Lisdoonvarna’s Pavillion Community Centre where members of the public can view the design and discuss the project with council staff.

The local authority put out a call for serviced sites in Feakle last May as part of a similar initiative.

Senior Engineer with Clare County Council’s Housing Delivery, Infrastructure Provision and Land Activation Directorate, Adrian Headd, says both schemes could be expanded if enough demand is seen.
