Claim There Will Be ‘Rural Revolution’ If Post Offices Close

It’s claimed there will be a rural revolution in Clare if An Post proceeds with plans which put rural branches in jeopardy.

The national postal service is working on its Modernisation Plan, which could see a number of post offices close their doors for good and postmasters have just over a week to accept or decline proposals.

It’s led to widespread concern in rural parts of this county, where people say they are reliant on the service provided by their postmaster or mistress.

Cooraclare Fianna Fáil Councillor Bill Chambers insists it’s time to write to both the Communications Minister and An Post to urge them not to leave rural Ireland in the lurch.
