The HSE says some of the Children's Ark section of University Hospital Limerick will close for a time this summer.
In a statement the body says the closure is due to the seasonal decline of activity levels in the facility.
The HSE is reassuring people that there will be no negative effect on the service provided to the children of the Mid West.
It also says if a spike in requirements occurs they will look to reopen some if not all of the closed capacity.
