Calls are being made for extra resources to be pumped into full-time lifeguard cover at Lahinch beach.
Lifeguard duty begins next weekend, but full-time cover won’t kick in until July.
Trained volunteers have reported a busy number of days as thousands flocked to the seaside area for the fine weather this past weekend.
It’s prompted fresh calls for full-time cover in June and September and Ben Bennet of Ben’s Surf Clinic believes it’s particularly important considering the advice for everyone to stay outdoors.
Clare County Council statement:
‘Beach lifeguard services are due to commence in County Clare next weekend (for weekends in June, with a full-time service starting from Monday, 28th June), however in light of the level of activity at beach locations in County Clare this weekend Clare County Council intends to increase the lifeguard services, particularly at busier beaches, from next weekend where lifeguards are available for weekdays also.’
