A Clare grandmother is urging water goers to be vigilant after her grandson’s life was saved in a dramatic rescue at Lahinch.
Over the Easter break, Madeleine Shinnick witnessed her 11-year old grandchild Michael swimming in calm waters close to the beach, before he was swept into the sea by a sudden riptide, where he quickly disappeared underwater.

Thankfully, four local surfers were on hand and their quick selfless actions brought Michael back to shore.
Madeleine believes more signage is needed to warn people of the threat of riptides.
