County Clare recorded the third higest levels of births in Munster during the third quarter of 2011.

New figures from the Central Statistics Office reveal 466 babies were born from July to September last year with just 10 more girls than boys.

70 percent were to married parents with the majority of mums aged between 30 and 39; a further 32 were aged 40 or older – again the third highest figure in Munster.

The CSO date also reveals that almost 200 deaths were recorded during the same three month period – 99 women and 98 men with cancer and heart disease the biggest killers.
