Almost 150 West Clare Properties Without Power Following Lightening Strike

Close to 150 homes and businesses in West Clare are without power following adverse weather conditions this morning.

It’s understood a cloud to ground lightening strike was recorded on the outskirts of Kilkee just before 11 o’clock, with two more strikes recorded offshore of Achill island in Mayo.

ESB crews are working to restore supply to the 148 properties in the Bealaha and Lislanahan areas following a fault on the network.

The estimated restoration time is 1 o’clock this afternoon.

Irish forecaster WeathÉire has told Clare FM that heavy showers will continue through the rest of this afternoon and evening.

“Spot flooding is possible during these intense downpours. Shannon Airport recorded 3mm of rainfall in just fifteen minutes during one heavy shower before 11.00am. Drier and brighter weather is expected during Tuesday.”
