All regions of Clare with the exception of Ennis will have additional funds for roads maintenance in the coming year.
Clare County Council has unveiled a €48 million funding package for municipal district works in 2026.
Of the €48.06 million Clare County Council has at its disposal for roads this year, 66% is coming from the Department of Transport.
The rest is courtesy of Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the Department of Rural and Community Development, the National Transport Authority and the local authority’s own resources.
The amount put in by the council itself this year stands at €4.23 million which is up 32% on its contribution for 2025.
Of the funding set aside for municipal district works in Clare this year, €9.09 million is for the Kilrush region, which accounts for 31% of the county’s roads network, indicating a 6% increase on last year.
The Ennistymon area has been allocated €6.54 million, up 20% on 2025, while Killaloe is seeing a 3% boost to €7.37 million.
Shannon’s share of funding has shot up by 14% to €3.31 million while Ennis is the only municipal district seeing its funding drop this year, with just €2.98 million given to the county town, showing a decrease of 12%.
