The Environmental Protection Agency is warning that the discharge of raw sewage could have serious implications for people’s health.
The EPA’s latest report has highlighted five areas in Clare where raw sewage was released into the environment this year, because the public sewers aren’t connected to treatment plants.
Irish Water says treatment will be provided for Clarecastle, Kilrush and Liscannor in 2023, while Kilkee and Ballyvaughan have been given treatment dates in 2025.
The report also notes that Kilmihil and Quin need improvement as a priority, to prevent waste water discharges from harming the environment.
Senior Manager at the EPA’s Office of Environmental Enforcement, Jim Moriarty has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it’s important that the treatment dates are adhered to.
