Additional public dog parks are expected to be rolled out in Clare in the near future.

It follows the official opening of the first ever council owned facility in this county at Ilaunmanagh in Shannon yesterday.

The enclosed 2,650 sq metre facility includes forestry, tunnels, water stations, ramps and public benches.

The first users of the park gave it a warm welcome.

The site was funded partly through grants from the Department of the Environment’s Dog Control Support Initiative, while the seven councillors elected to Shannon Municipal District also pooled their individual GMA funds together to get the pilot project over the line.

Ardnacrusha Fianna Fáil Councillor Rachel Hartigan says there’s no reason not to expect more countywide in the near future.
