The Government’s inquiry into Aughinish Alumnia may not be able to rule out a link between its goods and Russia’s war on Ukraine.
The Limerick plant has been under scrutiny after an investigation identified a connection between its exports and the Russian arms industry.
The Government launched an investigation into the Limerick plant to gather the facts on where the Aughinish Alumina’s exports are ending up – and more importantly what they’re being used for.
Ministers have been saying that report is close to completion – and today the Irish Times says the Government is unlikely to be able to rule out a connection between the plant and Russia’s weapons industry.
CSO figures released to the paper yesterday show half of the alumina produced at Aughinish Alumina in the first quarter of this year went to Russia.
There have been calls for sanctions, most recently from Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky during his recent trip to Dublin.
