A 33-year old Co Clare man has appeared in court charged with the unlawful possession of 809 child porn videos and 1,884 child porn images.
At Ennis Circuit Court, the man appeared concerning the two separate counts under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998 at his Co Clare home on February 10th 2021.
In one count, the man is charged with knowingly having in his possession child pornography on an Alba tablet containing 38 images of child sexual abuse material and 38 videos of child sexual abuse material.
In relation to the second count, the man is accused of knowingly have in his possession child pornography on a OnePlus mobile phone containing 1,846 images of child sexual abuse material and 771 videos of child sexual abuse material.
When the matter was before the district court, solicitor, Daragh Hassett for the accused said that the matter is particularly serious and asked that the legal aid certificate be extended for two barristers to represent the man in the circuit court.
The man – who can’t be named currently for legal reasons – is now before the circuit court in a new return after a Book of Evidence was served.
At Ennis Circuit Court, Judge Francis Comerford has adjourned the case to March 25th when the case will appear on a list to fix dates for later in the year.
