All Ireland Minor Football Championship Tier 2 Preliminary Quarter Final: Clare 3-11 Sligo 0-19
Clare are through to the quarter finals of the All Ireland Minor Football Tier 2 championship after a hard fought one point win over Sligo in Tubbercurry.
First half goals from Thomas Dillon and Rian Cotter saw Joe Hayes’ side lead by 2-7 to 0-8 at the break having played with the aid of the elements.
Dillon struck for his second goal of the contest midway through the second half to see Clare build a 3-9 to 0-11 lead, and it was a cushion they would need as a fast finishing Sligo landed a brace of late two pointers to reduce the gap to the minimum with the game entering injury time.
Clare’s defence held firm and despite being outscored by 0-8 to 0-2 in the final quarter of the game, they closed it out to move on to the quarter finals proper with a deserved victory.
