Residents living along the main route from Kilrush to Kilkee are calling for urgent interventions to prevent any further injury or loss of life.
It comes as homeowners at Leadmore East have raised concerns over a large volume of speeding traffic and visual obstructions on the N67.
Lily Da Silva is among the newest arrivals to Leadmore East, she’s had the plight of navigating the road as a pedestrian, however, something she claims has nearly cost her life on several occasions, due to a proliferation of speeding motorists and lack of a footpath.
Four years ago, Aisling Corcoran was first on the scene following a three-car collision outside her home, she says the lack of infrastructure very nearly caused a tragedy.
In January 2022, a letter signed by 29 residents was affixed to a council motion calling for a footpath to be built on the Kilkee Road.
It response, the local authority said the proposed footpath would be physically difficult to build, that construction costs alone would likely be into the six figures and that it had no plans to commence the project, citing that a funding source would have to be identified.

The residents are calling for a number of measures to address the issues. In addition to footpaths and street lighting, a continious white lane to prevent overtaking and a reduced 60km/hr speed limit is also being sought.
Dr Annemarie Carr who’s been living at Leadmore for over 50 years says there’s been too many fatalities.
Seán Doyle has been a Leadmore resident for fifteen years now, and last year, his daughter was rear-ended in a collision on the route.
He’s appealing to authorities to implement safety measures and for motorists to take particular care on the road.
