Today’s Afternoon Show ws live from Cahercalla Community Hospital and Hospice. Máire Moynahan was joined by Paula O’Halloran, CEO of the facility, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Fr. Harry Bohan and board member Paul Madden. Cahercalla Community Hospital and Hospice is marking the completion of an internal €3.5 million refurbishment and renovation programme enhancing the elderly and long term care facility for those who need it in the county. All of the 94 Nursing Home rooms, living rooms and support facilities have now been brought up to the highest standards and fully comply with the current HIQA regulations, making Cahercalla a residential Centre of Excellence for County Clare.Fr. Harry also talked about the Community Model of Elderly Care and seeing the realisation of his vision.
Rose Collins, the Matron of Cahercalla Communty Hospital & Hospice and Anna Marie Carroll, a founding Member of the Residents Association were also on the show. Rose gave details on ancillary services and holistic care at Cahercalla and talked about the last 34 years she’s spent working at the facility. Why Anna Marie discussed why they set up a Residents Association, how they look after the interests of residents and gave details on an information programme/ upcoming talk by Carmel McMahon on March 11th at the hospital.
Anne Lynch, a Care Assistant and her son Clare hurler Fergal Lynch and fellow hurler Cathal “Tots” O’Connell were also guests of the show as they were lending their support to Cahercalla. While Maretta O’ Hehir, a Soprano from Ballynacally spoke to Maire about the voluntary work she undertakes in Cahercalla – she calls the bingo and provides musical entertainment for the residents.
