Clare Councillors voted to formally nominate the County Louth based Dragons Den TV Star who has now received support from the required number of local authorities to ensure his name will be on the ballot paper of October 27th
All Clare Fine Gael Councillors abstained from the vote as they’re backing party candidate Gay Mitchell, but said they would not block Sean Gallagher by voting against him, while 15 councillors, made up mainly of Fianna Fail members voted in favour of his nomination
On Tuesday’s Morning Focus we heard from Councillors Michael Begley, Independent in Killaloe; Gerry Flynn, Independent in Shannon; Joe Arkins, Fine Gael Ruan; Patricia McCarthy, Independent Shannon and Brian Meaney, Green Party Ennis to get their views as to why they supported Sean or why they didn’t

Businessman Sean Gallagher, Clare County Council’s preferred choice for president, spoke with John Cooke.

Brian O’Neill of The Rowan Tree, Mary Kelly of Mary Kelly newsagents (just rebranded to The Hallmark Store) both of the Create the Magic Committee joined John in studio with consultant and customer service expert Kathleen Sullivan who will be facilitating the meeting
Brian has put a lot of staff through the training and is reporting increased sales and increased tips for his employees
Mary Kelly’s business is long established on the main street of Ennis, it is great that a business like that is involved, shows that no matter how long you are in business, you need to keep customer services to the fore

Gearoid Howard of Crimmins Howard Solicitors, Shannon and volunteer with the Clare Citizens’ Information Service Free Legal Advice Clinic joined John in studio to take a look at the area of Covert video surveillance of individuals by private investigators for court cases and the impact of social media websites on court cases.

Dr Bryce Evans a lecturer based in UCD has authored Seán Lemass: Democratic Dictator
John spoke with the historian who said he can’t believe what a sacred cow Lemass has been held up to be all these years
He questions his legacy and concludes that this man isn’t what he was made out to be
He gives a great insight into Lemass’ personal and political life

Olive Halpin of the Building of Hope Project joined John to explain how they need thirty more volunteers for their upcoming trip to build a residential homes for blind orphaned children in Mombassa, Kenya
