Mother Of Aoife Johnston Would Be “Terrified” To Be A Patient At UHL

Aoife Johnston RIP

The mother of Aoife Johnston, who passed away on at University Hospital Limerick in 2022, admits she’d be “terrified” to be a patient at the facility.

Shannon resident Carol Johnston was speaking after the inquest into the death of her 16-year-old daughter, which returned a verdict of death by medical misadventure.

The inquest heard the emergency department was a “death-trap” on the night of the teenager’s untimely passing, and that the Dooradoyle facility “remains dangerous” today in spite of measures such as plans for the construction of two 96-bed units.

Speaking outside Kilmallock Courthouse, Carol says one of the most devastating aspects of Aoife’s death was having to wait over 12 hours for a doctor to assess her daughter.
