Gardaí and Clare County Council have taken steps to address a large illegal encampment on the outskirts of Ennis.

Up to 25 caravans arrived on lands close to the Skehanagh roundabout, on the Ennis by-pass in recent weeks, which is one of five illegal encampments in the county town.

Concerns have been raised about sanitation at the site, as well as the fact that the encampment will be visible to people travelling from the south to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, which gets underway in Lahinch next Tuesday.
