Environment Minister Says “More Ambition” Required In Long Term For Moneypoint

The Environment Minister believes “more ambition” is required to ensure Moneypoint power station remains sustainable in some form in the long term.

The West Clare plant is due to end the burning of coal by 2025, though that date is almost certain to be brought forward due to advances in wind energy since that announcement was made by the ESB.

There are continued calls from local representatives here to ensure the plant receives funding under the Just Transition Scheme, which provides employment, training and transitional supports in a low carbon economy.
