The All star nonminee list has been unveiled and it’s no surprise that Davy Fitzgerald’s side have been rewarded for their astonishing 2013 performance.
After finally breaking the stranglehold of Kilkenny and Tipperary, the Banner have 13 players nominated.
Inagh/Kilnamona man and Clare Goalkeeper Patrick Kelly is on the All Stars nomination list along with his Cork rival Anthony Nash and Dublin’s Gary Maguire.
Also included for Clare are full backs David McInerney from Tulla and Clonlara’s Domhnall O’Donovan who scored the equalising point to force the replayed all Ireland with Cork.
On the Halfbacks shortlist are Brendan Bugler and Clare Captain Patrick Donnellan, while at Midfield Conor Ryan and Colm Galvin are also included.
Half Forwards Tony Kelly from Ballyea, John Conlon from Clonlara and Colin Ryan are also nominated, while Full-forwards Podge Collins from Cratloe, Conor McGrath and the hat-trick hero Shane O’Donnell from Eire Og are also in the running for an All Star.
Nominees for Player of Year are Clare’s Tony Kelly and Podge Collins, along with Cork’s Anthony Nash, while Collins and Kelly are joined by teammate David McInerney on the shortlist for Young Player of the Year.
There are 9 nominations for Cork, 7 for Limerick, 9 for Dublin and 4 for Kilkenny, 2 for Waterford and 1 for Wexford
The final selection will be made on Wednesday November 6 before the final 15 are presented with their awards two days later at the All-Star banquet at Croke Park.
