Almost a quarter of patients on the outpatient waiting list at Ennis Hospital have been waiting 18 months or more.
New figures from the National Treatment Purchase Fund show 1,342 patients were on the waiting list at the end of August.
The figure represents a slight increase in the number of people waiting for an appointment, with the vast majority of those patients awaiting cardiology treatment.
327 patients had been waiting 18 months or more to be seen.
That’s a sharp increase on August 2025, when 182 of the 1,315 patients on the waiting list had been waiting a year and a half.
412 people had been waiting less than six months to be seen, while 302 had been waiting between six and 12 months.
The remaining 296 patients had been waiting between 12 and 18 months.
Looking at the inpatient waiting lists, 935 people were waiting to be seen, with urology the service in greatest demand.
730 people were awaiting an appointment in urology.
Just one person across all inpatient specialities had been waiting 18 months or more.
Outpatient waiting lists at University Hospital Limerick have seen a major increase over the last 12 months.
35,183 patients were awaiting an appointment at the end of August, compared to 28,763 in August 2025.
Dermatology was the busiest speciality, with 4,218 people waiting for an appointment.
Cardiology was the next busiest, with 3,139 people waiting.
Of the total number of outpatients at UHL, 986 had been waiting 18 months or more for an appointment.
