2026 Fulfil Munster U-20 Hurling Championship: Tipperary 2-14 (20) v Clare 2-15 (21)

The game was nine minutes old before either side had a score on the board and although it was Fred Hegarty who registered the first white flag, The Premier would lead for the majority of the contest, with Cormac Fitzpatrick’s seventeenth minute goal helping Tipp to a 1-06 (9) to 0-07 advantage.

Despite going down to fourteen men on  51 minutes and even with Clare netminder Mark Sheedy making a smart 1v1 save , Tipp added a second goal seven minutes from time to stretch their advantage to 2-13 (19) to 0-13 with Tiernan Ryan raiding for goal.

In the first minute of injury time, Clare’s comeback in earnest began with a perfectly weighted Sean Arthur delivery into the square that eventually fell for Daniel Costelloe to goal.

Dramatically on the next attack, a Matthew O’Halloran effort would deflect to Marco Clearly who found the top right corner from an acute angle on the 13 metre-line.

On the restart, Clare’s defence rallied well to win the dirty ball, before Daniel Costelloe was found unmarked inside the 45 to split the posts and seal a famous win on a full-time score of 2-15 (21) to 2-14 (20) in FBD Semple Stadium Thurles.

Terrence Fahy’s charges will round off the group campaign with an away trip to SuperValu Páirc Uí Caoimh next Thursday April 29th.
