TUS Clare SHC Quarter Final: Ballyea 2-13 Clonlara 0-16
Ballyea’s traditional finishing kick proved their most potent weapon once more as they booked their spot in the TUS Clare SHC semi finals.
For long spells of this game, Clonlara looked to be keeping Robbie Hogans charges at arms length, with Diarmuid Stritch & Dylan McMahon excelling for the south east Clare men.
Clonlara played with the aid of a strong wind in the opening half, and led 0-8 to 0-4 approaching the break.
A brilliant instinctive save from Barry Coote proved to be a major turning point as Ballyea battled back to trail by just 0-9 to 0-6 heading for the dressing rooms.
Clonlara maintained that four point lead heading to the final quarter, but a brilliant blitz of 2-2, including goals from Morgan Garry and a Tony Kelly special, saw Ballyea turn the game on its head to lead by 2-9 to 0-11 with ten to play.
Clonlara showed their character to level the game, but as they have done so often, Ballyea found that extra great as a trio of late scores from Kelly eventually settled the contest.
