The start of summer has officially been a washout.
Met Eireann’s report for last month shows that its weather station at Shannon Airport recorded its highest level of rainfall in the month of July since 1946.

The amount of rain recorded was more than double the usual levels and on one day, the 21st, over 42 millimetres of rain fell – almost a third of the monthly total.
A gust of over 80 kilometres per hour was recorded at Shannon on the 26th of last month, the highest windspeed recorded anywhere in Ireland in July.
