A West Clare mother claims her son wouldn’t be alive if she didn’t have medical knowledge after she was unable to get an ambulance recently when he suffered a severe allergic reaction.
Kilrush-based Tissue Viability Nurse Alison Clancy’s six-month old son Paudie experienced anaphylaxis after starting on solids, causing hives around his face as well as tongue swelling.
After discovering that the nearest ambulance was in Limerick, Alison drove her son to Lissycasey where she was met by an ambulance crew who brought him to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
She says were it not for her professional experience and a fast-acting anti-histamine, the outcome would’ve been much different.
