Water Users Warned Of Potential For Swimming Restrictions At Five Clare Beaches

Water users in Clare are being warned of the possibility of elevated levels of bacteria at landmark pier and beach attractions due to a spell of expected excessive rainfall.

Clare County Council has issued prior warning notices for beaches at White Strand, Miltown Malbay – Spanish Point – Kilkee – White Strand, Doonbeg – and Lahinch, while a notice has also been issued for the bathing water at Cappagh Pier, Kilrush.

The restriction has come into effect this morning and is expected to remain in place for the next three days.

The local authority has notified the HSE of the conditions and is advising visitors to to avoid swallowing or splashing water, to wash their hands before handling food and to avoid swimming with an open cut or wound.
