A West Clare community is arguing it’s never been more important to celebrate Ireland’s independence.
A commemoration of the July 1921 truce that brought the War of Independence to an end will be held in Kilkee this Saturday.

The Kilkee War of Independence Committee is holding the event at the town’s War of Independence monument which bears the name of 250 local men and women who contributed to the pursuit of sovereignty.
Committee Chairperson Lily Marrinan says in the context of global unrest as well as oppression in various countries, it’s vital to acknowledge Ireland’s path to freedom.
