Shannon Airport has become the first in Europe to use facial recognition technology introduced for U.S. preclearance.
The initiative, which has seen the airport chosen for a pilot project, is designed to speed up passengers’ journeys through the Airport by availing of shorter security screening times.
The technology essentially verifies passengers by matching them to the documents they are presenting.
Shannon was the first airport in Europe to introduce U.S. preclearance for its passengers in 2009.
