Rape Crisis Midwest insists the level of urgency required to address issues in providing support to victim survivors of domestic sexual and gender based violence can no longer be ignored.
It follows the publication of the ‘North South Co-operation To Tackle Violence Against Women’ report, which calls on authorities on both sides of the border to deliver a coordinated response, bolstered by adequately funded services.
The report has warned that without sufficient emergency and long-term accommodation, vulnerable women, particularly those from minority and marginalised communities, remain trapped in abusive environments.
Managing Director of Rape Crisis Midwest, Siobhán O’Leary believes there needs to be a collaborative effort by governments, together with service providers to identify problem areas in service provision.
