The seizure of 70,000 illegal cigarettes at Shannon Airport this week has saved the exchequer almost €30,000.

The cigarettes were being imported into Ireland on a consignment of airfreight which had been flown into Shannon from China, but were discovered by officers from Revenue’s Customs Service at the Airport who noticed a suspicious package.
Further investigations revealed the full extent of the significant haul, which it’s understood was to be sent to an address in Munster.
