A yellow weather alert for Clare and much of the country has come into force.
Met Éireann is forecasting temperatures higher than 27 degrees, combined with overnight minimum temperatures of more than 15 degrees.
The alert, which came into force at noon, remains in force until 6 o’clock on Friday morning and covers this county, the rest of Munster and Connaught, as well as Carlow, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan and Donegal.
Yesterday, temperatures of 29.3 degrees celcius were recorded at Met Éireann’s weather station at Shannon Airport.
Met Éireann says potential impacts include uncomfortable sleeping conditions, heat stress, water safety issues due to increased use of lakes, beaches and waterways, forest fires and drought.
