A County Clare School teacher who admitted to committing sexual offences against a teenage girl at a local school is due to be sentenced today.
The 60 year old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to 14 sexual offences at Ennis Circuit Court earlier this year
Most of the offences took place at a County Clare school over a 14 week period in September and October of 2009 when the teenage girl was 15 years old and in November of that year when she turned 16.
During the sentencing hearing in July, council for the 60 year old – who has now retired from teacher- said he bears the shame disgrace and responsibility for the offences.
The court also heard that one of his sons who was attending the school has since moved because of the incident.
Judge Carroll Moran was told the teenage girl didn’t wish to attend the hearing or give a victim impact statement – and he fixed sentencing for today at Ennis Circuit Court
