Shannon Councillor Criticises Removal Of Public Furniture On Alleged Health And Safety Grounds

It’s been suggested there’s no basis to claims public furniture in Shannon had to be removed due to health and safety concerns.

Much criticism has resulted from Clare County Council’s decision to remove timber forest park furniture placed by members of the public in Tullyglass Hill in the industrial town.

In a statement to Clare FM, the local authority says the placement of the furniture “created issues around public liability and safety concerns” due to frequent littering and reports of tree trunks being set alight at the site.

Shannon Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy insists the furniture was of much benefit to the community and any potential hazards have been exaggerated.
