Shannon Airport says it’s confident it can build on what has been a strong year for passenger numbers.
New figures from the Irish Tourism Industry Confederation show passenger traffic at Shannon increased by 8.8% in August compared with the same month last year, which is the strongest growth recorded at any of Ireland’s major airports.
Shannon was also the fastest-growing major airport throughout the summer, with passenger numbers up by 11.5% between May and August.
More than one million people passed through the airport during those four months and Airport Director Niall Kearns says work is already underway to ensure Shannon can accommodate further growth.
